The bench press is a lift in which the athlete lies on a bench and presses the barbell from their chest to arm's length. The deadlift is a lift in which the athlete lifts the barbell from the floor to a standing position, with the arms straight. The athlete gets three attempts at each lift, and the total of the heaviest successful lifts determines the winner. Powerlifting requires a high level of strength, power, and muscular endurance. ³
